Story on fault-finding
Shell flew to a group of nearby mountains and landed the ship where there was a beautiful view of the city. Nobody had spoken a word since Anna and Draws kiss there was an awkward silence in the room. “Beautiful view isn’t it K?” B.E. said finally. “This really isn’t the time for a midnight stoll,” Shell said.
“It’s only five forty five it’s not even dark out yet,” Kerwin said not looking up but down at his watch. “Ok then since everyone is in a really dismal mood I might as well just explain what’s going on,” B.E. said sitting back down turning her chair to face Anna and Drew. “You listening Kerwin?” she said.
“Yea whatever,” he replied not lifting his head. “Ok my name is Blue Eyes and-” she was cut off. “That’s not your real name,” Kerwin interjected. “Why don’t you tell then your real name and let’s hope this is planet is the one blown up so I can die in peace,” he said grimly. “Ok that’s it this attitude isn’t working out for me,” B.E. exclaimed getting out of her chair and spinning Kerwin’s around at the same time.
“Look at me!” she ordered as Kerwin looked away. He reluctantly looked into her eyes forcing him not to yell. “What,” he spat. “I told you my real name because I saw the type of person you were I knew that you maybe the last of your kind who would do nothing to befall others willingly, you who has the purest of heart and maybe the last of your kind who follows honor and chivalry,” she explained.
“How can you know all these things about me you’ve only just met me what five hours ago,” Kerwin said annoyed. “When that meteor hit that area you where in and that Vortex opened up you where the only one who was knocked out. You saw the Inhuman appear and they were heading to a children’s hospital and taking other people away.
You didn’t even give it a second thought you ran to the hospital blindly not knowing what you can do, but you had to do something to protect the children. You were outnumbered out matched, but you still fought. It’s unfortunate that the damage was already done.
The Inhuman already gave the children a virus that would slowly kill them. Then and there you swore to find a cure and that you wouldn’t rest till you the children are safe,” B.E. told him his words that cut like a blade to him.
“Kerwin I’m sorry…”
“I bet you are Anna planning to have good time with your boyfriend is feeling real sorry,” Kerwin snapped gesturing to Drew.
“That’s not fair to Anna-“
“It’s not fair is Drew? The last time I checked life isn’t fair. It wasn’t fair that the children have to suffer because I wasn’t stronger enough to fight off the Inhuman. No because of me there dying because of me they’re going to die if I don’t find a cure,” he said and B.E. thought she saw his eyes flash red for a faint second.
It didn’t register with her and she said “I don’t know what to do. What can I do to make you feel better?” “There is nothing you can do. I want to see India she always knows what to do to cheer me up,” he said turning his chair back around to face the front of the ship.
“Shell here put this in the computer it’s a GPS, I gave one to all of my FRIENDS so I’ll know where find them,” Kerwin said putting strong emphasis on the word friend. Drew and Anna hung there head in shame as Shell started up the ship once more.
“Hey look she’s not that far from here,” Shell said looking down at the GPS and taking off. An awkward silence fell over the ship again. Drew getting annoyed by the silence broke it by saying, “I don’t know why you’re so upset you should be happy for us instead of acting like it’s all about you for once.” That word cut Kerwin deep.
“Drew you shouldn’t have-“
“Upset?” Kerwin said cutting across Anna. “No I’m not upset, I’m just disappointed in the fact that my two suppose to be best friends are dating and neither gives a rats ass about me to say so,” he continued standing up facing Drew.
“Years I’ve been wanting to see you to together YEARS and finally happens and neither of them tells me,” he continued eyes turning crimson red. A look of pure terror grew on Blue Eye’s face. “That’s impossible…”
“B.E. what’s going on?”
“I don’t know Shell that shouldn’t happen we’re nowhere near a Vortex,” she said. Before anyone could react Kerwin ran across to Drew grabbed his neck and lifted him into the air muttering “your suppose to be my best friend” and a single tear drop slid down his face.
“Kerwin stop…please…” Anna said eyes welling up. Kerwin looked at Anna and at once he loosened his grip on Drew, his eyes flashed blue then went back to their regular brown. Kerwin looked mortified as he made his way to the door opening it. “Kerwin get away from the door,” B.E. said calmly.
“Sorry it didn’t work out between us E, I’m sorry Anna I’m so sorry. I’m sorry…” Kerwin said trailing off. “If you don’t step away from the door I will paralyze you, unlike us your powers don’t work outside of the Vortexes,” she said her eyes turning white.
“Your power won’t work on me you sad excuse for a Terrain!” Kerwin snapped in a deeper voice that usual, eyes turning red again. Blue Eyes was taken aback by this, her eyes returned to its brilliant blue state. “How? That’s not possible I haven’t told anyone where we’re from…”
“I KNOW ALL!!!”
“No! Stay out of my head!” Kerwin hissed eyes flashing blue again then back to his normal brown. “What is going on?” Anna asked frightened. Nobody said anything; nobody even moved they all stared at Kerwin with fear in their eyes. Kerwin put his hand in his pocket and pulled out a golden watch and tossed it to Drew not looking at him.
Drew caught it and it slid directly into place over his back hand. Drew was known for wearing watches like this, but before he could say anything Kerwin said, “I found that in an old watch makers place said it’s special. I didn’t know what he meant but I bought it for you anyway because that’s what friends are for.”
“Goodbye everyone.”
Those were the last words Kerwin said to any of them because after he said he fell backwards as though to see the faces of the ones he loved once last time. B.E. and Anna ran to the opened door of the ship screaming his name, but he did not here them, he only heard the sounds of the wind lashing against his ears drowning out all sound.
Drew stood in the ship staring down at the watch Kerwin just gave him, his body shaking violently a tea drop falling on to the watch. “YOU FEEL ACCOMPLISHED!!!” he bellowed into thin air. Just then a Vortex opened up and Kerwin’s body was no longer visible to Anna and B.E.
Who were looking helplessly out of the door? “He’s gone E he’s gone…” Shell said tears streaming down her face putting a hand on Blue Eyes shoulder. “I think there is another one in that Vortex as well we better get going before the inhuman get them,” she added pulling Anna and B.E. away from the door and closing it. B.E. slowly made her way back to her seat, behind the co-pilot seat and Shell knew why.
Drew put his arm around Anna, but she shrugged it off and sat in her seat crying. Drew looked down and made his way back to his seat as Shell flew into the Vortex.
