Story on Camarilla
Henry hated the damp basement they called headquarters, it was catastrophically small and within half a year he would bet money that they would have mold issues. The others said it was the best they could get not being anywhere near rich but he worried, mostly about the moisture.
It was natural maybe, being the tech-guy, but he wished the others would at least take him seriously.
They never did anymore though, not since that new chic had arrived. He was impressed too, she was way older than any of them, and most of all; She was not afraid of the Camarilla. She had stomped in to town three months earlier, had twisted Bishop Jared’s balls until he wept like a puppy and taken control.
She oozed of power, but Henry was worried. She talked of war, a big war, the kind of epic war you hear about in stories. He wanted to smack down the Camarilla too, he did but they weren’t strong enough to take over the city, even less to change the world order as she talked about. And she was crazy, not like Jared crazy, Henry could handle Jared crazy, this chic was lock-up-and-throw-away-the-key-crazy.
He had seen her rip of the head of one of Jared’s pack mates and drinks his blood by pouring him up like a fine bottle of wine, and nobody did anything. Not even Jared and his pack even though they had wept like children about it had not even tried to stop her.
Henry had thought about talking to Jared, he and his pack was the strongest and oldest of them so they probably knew best what to do in this situation but she never let them out of sight.
He guessed she knew they would plot against her if she did. So now he sat there in that damned damp basement with the rest of his pack awaiting her arrival. She had a task for them she said, an important task.
Suicide he guessed would be the proper label, but when he raised his concern to Ally she just snared that he was being paranoid. He had grumbled but just walked away from the situation, knowing she wouldn’t listen. He could hear the others talking, about her. They talked like true fan girls, wondering what awesome life she had lived before entering their lives.
“Can you just shut the fuck up about her for one minute!?” he finally snapped and felt their eyes in his back “I’m trying to get in to that fucking dude you robbed earlier’ bank account and I can’t concentrate with you yapping about like fucking teenagers!”
“Chill out man,” Christopher said with a surprised but calm voice but Henry could hear Allys’ heals clappering up towards him. As he thought he was soon turned around in his chair and she glared down at him.
“Show her some respect! Show me some respect! You are so fucking lame Henry! This woman will change our world, we will be rich, powerful, and everything we ever dreamed about will come true! So why should we care about some losers bank account anymore? Listen, why aren’t you happy?” Her eyes were wild; he realized she was afraid too, but masking it and ignoring it. They all were.
“Because I’m smart. She cannot possibly give us everything she has promised, not without taking over the whole city, and we will be her meat wall. Cannon fodder. I… she is cool, sure but Ally, she is dangerous too…”
“You promised to treat him well,” Ally said with a tremble in her voice and Morgan, that was her name, just nodded;
“I will, Henry here will be the key to your succession in the world. And all you need to do Henry, to lift your pack out of the dirt and in to the elite is to trace two persons for me,”
She touched him, gently on his neck and fixed his eyes with her gaze. He was sweating, something he had not done since the night he died. He was terrified.
“Who?” he asked hearing his own voice crack as he spoke
“One should be simple, a black woman, a Gangrel. She was born 1938 in Memphis, her legal name was Jennifer Hammer, but we all know her by Roxanne,” the woman mumbled and he turned pale
“No… No that… that is the Sheriff, she killed Bounce last winter…” he stuttered and a smile that made his bones chill came over her lips
“That would be correct, Mr. Dutch. I need to know where her haven is located, and her regular movements. Then there is one other person I need to get information about, one I have not heard about yet in this city,” she said stroking his face like he was a pet of sorts
“Julian Fernandez” she hissed, he knew at that moment that she hated that person. Henry just nodded and she let him go, he had no idea who this Julian was but he pitted the man…
“Henry, you’re hyperventilating,” she mumbled and he saw the fear in everyone’s eyes.
“She will get us killed,” he mumbled and fixed his eyes on Ally turning angry “She will get us all killed!”
He jumped on his feet screaming the last sentence baring his teeth against Ally. She pulled back, hissing, and the others stepped in between.
“We can’t change that now,” Christopher said and Henry flung a cup over the room in frustration
“Henry listens!” Bethany pleaded “Ally did what was best; if we don’t cooperate she will kill us too… And you are the best; you can pull this off,”
“You stupid cunts! Don’t you get it!? When she finds those people she will start killing, which will make the Camarilla attack us all, and then we will have to fight with her and all the fucking elders will come for us! Roxanne killed Bounce by herself, when she was injured, without any problem! What the fuck to you think all of them will do to us!?” he raged throwing chairs around to release some of his frustration
“What the fuck are we to do then!?” Amy finally snapped and stepped in front of him. They stared each other down for a moment or two and then he calmed down. He dropped in to a frustrated scared lump on the floor.
“I don’t know… Flee?”
“I’m sorry Henry… She. I couldn’t say no,” she sounded really sad and he turned around looking at her sitting in their worn out couch looking like a kicked pup. He knew she was sorry; she would never like to sell any of them out. She was their leader because she was the strongest, and the savviest. He trusted her, and understood why. He did not like it, and had needed to express that but he understood.
“It’s cool Ally. I understand… I just needed to freak out, get it out of the system,” he said and she gave him a faint sad smile;
“Good… Looked like you were going in to frenzy for a moment there… I… I’ll make us survive okay?”
“Okay, I’ll try to find this Julian meanwhile you plan that master plan then” he said giving her his usual smart ass smile “Just in case it goes as usual,”
She threw a pillow at him and they laughed, it was well again. They were both scared to death but at least they were friends again. He put on some music while he worked and could hear her making calls and organizing their other businesses with the world.
It might be a damp small fucking basement, but it was theirs. He hoped with all his soul they would have at least that left when all this came down. A basement and each other.
