Story on Balderdash nonsense
“One shall stand, one shall fall.”
Those were the rules put into place for what was surely to be the final clash of two titans. With the stakes set, Optimus Prime, leader of the heroic Auto bots, engaged in a one-on-one duel with his eternal nemesis and leader of the treacherous Decepticons, Megatron. As warfare raged upon all of Autobot City, the body count ever-rising on both factions.
However, after much clashing of swords and numerous punches thrown, Megatron was left cowering behind the eye of the Prime’s cannon. Or so he appeared. In truth, his optics had narrowed upon a stray blaster, most likely that of a fallen soldier of his too weak to hold his own in a firefight. The cannon aimed squarely at his face was nothing more an obstacle and the solution was staring right back at him.
“No more, Optimus Prime! Grant me mercy, I beg of you!” the Decepticon leader pleaded with the acting chops that would be barely acceptable even by the low standards of Earth soap operas.
Obviously, Optimus was less than amused. “You who are without mercy, now plead for it? I thought you were made of sterner stuff.”
For just the briefest moment, though, the Autobot was distracted enough for Megatron to leap towards the blaster while Optimus barely had time to react. Unfortunately for the tyrant, Optimus was far from the only Autobot present.
The relatively young and inexperienced soldier known as Hot Rod immediately left into action, hoping to bind the tyrant before he was able to threaten his noble leader. Unfortunately for the soldier, Megatron was a good twice his size and managed to bind him while snatching up the gun anyway.
And so preceded the shots that reverberated across the entire battlefield, bringing the once chaotic gunfire to a screeching halt as everyone started off into the distance to see the final results.
There stood Optimus Prime, barely standing, clutching his midsection as both smoke and energon began to pour out of his body. Before long, it was Megatron gloating over his kneeling nemesis with an all-too pleased grin.
The fallen Prime began to shake as both of his hands grasped over his wound. By now, it was more than apparent that he would not be making it out of this fight alive. That was a risk he was more than aware of the moment he set foot on the battlefield.
Still, his fight was far from over, for as long as Megatron stood to continue his reign of tyranny, he refused to fall.
With that in mind, the fist he had conjured in order to protect his wounds began to rise and, with all of the power his failing parts could muster, he dealt one last decisive blow.
Megatron was sent hurling off the side of the battlefield, his already badly damaging body seeming to break apart from the sheer force of the punch, only to shatter even further as he bounced off of a platform, followed by another.
By the time the Decepticon leader had crashed down to the rubble below, he was in nothing less than critical condition. Just as his glowing red eyes began to fade, all he could see was Optimus Prime standing triumphant a good 500 feet above him.
That was the last he saw before the glimmer of his eyes slowly began to fade and his body locked itself into stasis, just before he could have seen Prime in a similar condition.
Megatron suspected himself to be offline. At the moment, he felt nothing, not even pain from his injuries. He couldn’t see anything. He couldn’t hear anything. Only his mind seemed to remain and even that was flashing on and off. The world around him seemed to be just a bottomless void that he was doomed to fall through forever.
The eternal void seemed to suddenly explode with light as Megatron’s optics once again began to flicker with life. He was still completely incapacitated, his entire body lying paralyzed as he was forced to look up at an unfamiliar ceiling, though the bright light appeared to have followed him into the physical realm as well before starting to die down.
Judging by the lack of in-fighting, he assumed it to be the Autobot base, where they either saw that he was still alive enough to be kept a prisoner or dead enough to be collected as a trophy. An all-too familiar voice ringing in his audio receptors all but confirmed his theory.
“Until that day, till all are one…” Optimus Prime managed to belt out with what sounded like the last of his strength. The delightful ringing of a flatline and the cries of Prime’s fellow Autobots was enough to bring a delighted, satisfied smirk upon Megatron’s face.
Optimus Prime was dead and he was still alive. For a moment, he had almost felt his mission to be a failure. Now, it was more than worth it.
Soon enough, the sounds of those mourning the dead became drowned out by maniacal cackling. Everyone immediately turned their heads to see the damaged Decepticon dictator seeming to happily laugh his spark out at the event of his nemesis’s final rest, continuous internal damage be damned.
“Well, it appears the mighty Optimus Prime has fallen,” Megatron mused, unable to properly look his enemies in the eye as he mocked them. “How saddening. But at least his legacy of weaklings and utterly decimated bases lives on.”
With that in mind, the mere soldier took a deep breath before crouching down to search for the elusive sphere. However, upon further inspection, it was found nowhere near their now colorless corpse of a leader or even anywhere upon the floor.
Instead, it was actively floating on its own, not in place, not to Ultra Magnus as Optimus had intended, but over Megatron himself.
“What…What is it doing?!” Daniel, the lone human of the group present asked out loud, though none of his robotic allies had any solid idea either.
“It appears even your Autobot artifacts recognizes a superior leader,” Megatron bellowed, obviously enjoying seeing his enemies’ last glint of hope fall right into his hands. “Perhaps it is about time to finally anoint a Prime capable of actual success. Obviously, you cannot judge the ruling of the Primes, can you?”
The Decepticon’s insistent cackling continued as everyone from Hot Rod to Arcee to Ultra Magnus himself attempted to take the Matrix though to no avail. It just continued to hover over Megatron as he continued mocking their efforts.
It wasn’t much longer before the crystal orb finally opened up, blinding everyone in the room once more, except for the Decepticon leader. No, he experienced something far greater than the Matrix shining down at him. His very mind and spark was sent hurling inside of it, his physical body becoming little more than empty shell. Then things got trippy.
